Speaker Information Professor Simon Thomson Institution: Cardiff University Biography Professor Simon Thomson is Director of Flexible Lifelong Learning at Cardiff University. His work focuses on mixed-modal and hybrid education, including the development of his openly licensed Subject, Pedagogy and Modality framework. He is currently leading the creation of Cardiff’s new Institute for Flexible and Lifelong Learning, with a focus on expanding flexible education regionally, nationally and globally. Simon has extensive experience helping institutions use digital tools in ways that meaningfully enhance teaching and learning. Professor Chie Adachi Institution: Queen Mary University of London Biography Professor Chie Adachi is Dean for Digital Education in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at Queen Mary University of London, and Interim Academic Director for the Centre for Excellence in AI in Education. She provides strategic leadership on digital pedagogy, educational technologies and the use of AI in teaching and assessment. Chie also leads the Digital Education Studio, a multidisciplinary team supporting transformation in digital education practice. Her research explores critical digital pedagogy, educational technology and intercultural approaches to higher education. Moderator Information Professor Sam Elkington Institution: Teesside University Biography Professor Sam Elkington is Professor of Learning & Teaching at Teesside University, where he leads the university-wide Learning & Teaching Enhancement portfolio. He has more than 15 years’ experience across higher education teaching, research, academic leadership and policy. Before joining Teesside, he was national lead for Assessment & Feedback and Flexible Learning at Advance HE. Sam’s expertise includes transformative assessment, inclusive learning environments, flexible learning and student-centred teaching practice.
